Arizona Government Substance Abuse Prevention Resources
Arizona Government Substance Abuse Prevention Resources The Arizona Substance Abuse Partnership’s Community Outreach and Training Workgroup has worked diligently with the Arizona National Guard Counterdrug Task Force Civil Operations team to create the Arizona Prevention Resource website with the vision of having a centralized location for state and national resources targeted towards substance misuse prevention training and education for all sectors of the community. These sectors include community, businesses, military and first responders, and large organizations. The goal is to minimize the demand for illegal drugs and to prevent misuse of prescribed and illicit substances by providing easily accessible prevention education and treatment information needed for specific areas of concern.
Arizona Opioid Assistance and Referral (OAR) Line
Arizona Opioid Assistance and Referral (OAR) Line offers opioid information, resources, and referrals for providers and the public. Local medical professionals certified in toxicology are available 24/7 to provide free, confidential services, including information about opioid dependence, withdrawal, and where to get help in Arizona. This service is made available by the Arizona Department of Health Services and the Center for Toxicology and Pharmacology Education and Research at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix. Trained and certified providers at the Arizona and Banner Poison and Drug Information Centers manage and staff the OAR line. The OAR Line was one of the recommendations in the Arizona Department of Health Service’s Opioid Action Plan in response to Arizona’s opioid epidemic. The comprehensive OAR Line is one of the nation’s first real-time hotlines for healthcare providers seeking consultation for complex patients with pain and opioid use disorder.

Arizona Health Care Substance Use Prevention, Treatment and Recovery Block Grant. The SUBG supports primary prevention services and treatment services for individuals without health insurance or other resources who seek specialty treatment and prevention services for substance use disorders (SUD). It is used to plan, implement and evaluate activities to prevent and treat SUD. Grant funds are also used to provide early intervention services for HIV and tuberculosis disease in high-risk substance users. The following sections provide information on SUD treatment, independent case review, primary prevention, TB prevention, and the Synar Program aimed at preventing underage access and use of tobacco/nicotine substances.
